Aksi itu diikuti oleh para demonstran yang juga berasal dari sejumlah universitas di depan Kompleks Parlemen Nasional.
Protes yang awalnya berjalan damai ini berakhir ricuh setelah sekelompok pendemo melakukan aksi lempar batu ke gedung parlemen.
Selain itu mereka juga melakukan perusakan terhadap sejumlah kendaraan.
Ada pun aksi protes ini dilakukan dalam rangka memprotes mobil dinas baru untuk para pejabat di Timor Leste.
Mobil tersebut adalah Toyota Prado yang akan dibeli dan dibagikan kepada 65 anggota parlemen atas anggaran yang sudah disetujui oleh pemerintah tahun lalu.
Para demonstran menuntut agar anggota parlemen membatalkan pembelian Prado demi memperbaiki diri.
Aksi protes yang berlangsung memanas itu pun mendapat respons tegas dari petugas keamanan.
Polisi menembakkan gas air mata kepada massa aksi dengan tujuan untuk membubarkan massa demo.
Menurut informasi yang diterima, setidaknya ada empat orang pengunjuk rasa yang terluka akibat tembakan gas air mata.
Sejumlah korban itu lalu dilarikan ke fasilitas kesehatan terdekat dengan segera.
Sementara itu menanggapi aksi demo ricuh, pejabat Kepolisian Nasional Timor Leste, Justino Menezes menyebut pihaknya akan memanggil koordinator aksi untuk diminta pertanggungjawaban.
Perlu diketahui, aksi demonstrasi di Timor Leste ini pecah menyusul protes ricuh yang dilakukan oleh sejumlah negara seperti Indonesia, Nepal, Serbia, hingga Prancis.
