Gubernur BI Perry Warjiyo mengatakan, pelemahan rupiah dipengaruhi tingginya ketidakpastian pasar global. Terutama ketidakpastian arah penurunan suku bunga Amerika Fed Fund Rate, penguatan mata uang dolar as dan faktor geopolitik.Sementara faktor dalam negeri adalah kenaikan permintaan valas oleh korporasi, serta persepsi terhadap kesinambungan fiskal BI mencatat nilai rupiah melemah 5,92 persen dari level akhir desember 2023.
Namun pelemahan rupiah ini diklaim lebih rendah bila dibandingkan dengan pelemahan Won Korea 6,78 persen, Baht Thailand 6,92 persen, Peso Meksiko 7,89 persen, Real Brasil 10,63 persen, dan Yen Jepang 10,78 persen.
BI yakin nilai tukar rupiah akan bergerak stabil didukung aliran masuk modal asing, menariknya imbal hasil, rendahnya inflasi dan pertumbuhan ekonomi Indonesia yang tetap baik.
Selain mempertahankan suku bunga acuan 6,25 persen sampai bulan Juni 2024, Bank Indonesia melakukan intervensi di pasar valas. Selain itu ada penguatan strategi operasi moneter pro market melalui optimalisasi instrumen SRBI, SVBI, dan SUVBI.
