Ia sebelumnya menjanjikan pengiriman rudal Patriot kepada Kyiv untuk menghadapi agresi Rusia.
Namun, belakangan ia meminta negara-negara sekutu Eropa yang justru mengirimkannya.
Trump menyebut bahwa Amerika akan menyediakan sistem pengganti yang lebih modern kepada NATO jika sekutu Eropa menyerahkan Patriot mereka, dikutip Kamis (17/7/2025).
Ia juga menekankan bahwa AS akan terus memproduksi senjata mutakhir untuk mendukung aliansi tersebut.
Sistem pertahanan Patriot dikenal efektif dalam mencegat rudal balistik Rusia.
Namun, rencana Trump ini dianggap belum matang karena hanya berupa kerangka awal, tanpa rincian teknis yang jelas.
Sejumlah pejabat di AS dan Eropa mengungkapkan, dukungan konkret bagi Ukraina masih tergantung pada negosiasi antarnegara donor.
Sementara itu, para pemilik sistem Patriot dan negara donor Ukraina dijadwalkan menggelar pertemuan pada pekan depan untuk membahas strategi distribusi pertahanan udara
