Cinematic Color Grading in Photoshop (+5 Free Presets)
▶ Download the 5 Curves presets plus a Bonus, sample image, PSD and PDF guide for this tutorial (free with a PHLEARN account): https://phlearn.com/tutorial/color-grading-photoshop/Color grade any photo in Photoshop with one Curves adjustment layer. Aaron puts color into the shadows and highlights of the Red, Green and Blue channels with the hand tool, keeps the midtones on the line so the skin stays natural, saves the grade as a Curves preset, and shows both ways to install the free presets: five looks plus the Bonus preset he builds in the video.
THE STEPS
1. Add a Curves adjustment layer: RGB moves the lights and darks, Red, Green and Blue move the color.
2. Red channel: pull the shadow point up for red in the darks, the highlight point down for cyan highlights.
3. The hand tool: click a shadow or a highlight on the photo itself and drag. No graph reading needed.
4. Green and Blue: a little color in the shadows, the opposite in the highlights. Cool shadows, warm highlights.
5. Protect the skin tones: skin lives in the midtones, so put every channel's midtone point back on the center line.
6. Save Curves Preset, then Load Curves Preset, or copy the .acv files into Photoshop's Curves presets folder.
