In this video we're with Lufthansa Aviation Training to find out: how exactly does a commercial pilot get trained to the highest standards possible, in both theoretical and practical terms? Complete with behind the scenes access to what pilot training looks like including the chance to fly and observe inside the simulators (including the Boeing 747!)
We start off in the rare H145/H135 helicopter simulator and we all take a crack at flying it, including Lufthansa Training Captain Claus Harder, who joins us for this session once again.
We then head over to the 747-8 simulator and get to see a range of training scenarios (including emergency procedures like rapid decompression, engine fire/RTO and TCAS alerts!) After that Gabe and Sophia take a crack at flying the airplane themselves.
We also get a look at what goes into the famously tricky Canarsie Approach at New York JFK.
We also head to the briefing room to learn more about Lufthansa's pilot training philosophy and best practices for ensuring safe and competent operations day in and day out.
Watch the first video we made with LAT where we learned how to fly the legendary A340-600 in the sim: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Js8LE81wFMQ
