Pembangunan batalyon TNI yang digalakkan pemerintah memantik penolakan di beberapa daerah disertai bermacam alasan. Benang merahnya kurang lebih serupa: ancaman hilangnya ruang hidup.Pemerintah menargetkan lahir ratusan batalyon baru di setiap tahunnya, dimulai dari 2025.
Batalyon ini tak cuma berfungsi mendukung fungsi tempur sebagaimana karakter utamanya, melainkan juga program-program utama pemerintah—swasembada pangan atau makan bergizi gratis (MBG).
Di Biak, Papua, rencana pendirian batalyon ditentang lantaran bersinggungan dengan lokasi sakral leluhur sekaligus sumber mata air. Di luar itu, pelepasan tanah turut dituding ditempuh secara sepihak.
Sementara di Pasuruan, Jawa Timur, penolakan terhadap pembangunan batalyon tak lepas dari riwayat konflik yang telah lama mengendap.
Warga menilai penyelesaian dari masalah itu belum ideal, dan sekarang muncul wacana baru lainnya berupa markas batalyon.
