936 yılında Endülüs'ün incisi Córdoba'da doğan El-Zehravi, İslam tıbbı ve cerrahisinin tartışmasız en büyük ismidir. Tam adı Ebû'l-Kâsım Halef ibn Abbâs el-Zehrâvî olan bu büyük bilgin, hayatını insanlığın sağlığı ve iyileşmesine adamıştır. Otuz ciltlik ansiklopedik eseri “el-Tasrîf”, yüzyıllar boyunca hem doğu hem de batı tıp dünyasında temel bir referans kaynağı olmuştur. 500 yılı aşkın bir süre Avrupa üniversitelerinde ders kitabı olarak kullanılan bu eser, modern cerrahinin temellerini atmıştır. 1013 yılında Córdoba'da vefat eden El-Zehravi, bıraktığı bilgiler sayesinde bin yıl sonra bile hala tartışılmaktadır.Bin yıl önce, bu büyük usta şöyle demişti: “Hastalık asla aniden gelmez.
