Juru bicara Departemen Luar Negeri AS, Matthew Miller pada Kamis (13/6/2024) mengatakan Washington belum melihat Israel melancarkan operasi militer besar-besaran di Rafah.
Ia menilai operasi militer Israel di Rafah tidak sebanding dengan “ukuran, ruang lingkup atau skala” operasi yang dilakukan di tempat lain di Gaza.
Miller menyebut serangan di Rafah merupakan operasi yang lebih terbatas.
Komentar tersebut muncul satu jam setelah tank Israel maju lebih jauh ke wilayah barat Rafah.
Resident mengatakan itu adalah salah satu malam terburuk akibat pemboman dari udara, darat, dan laut, yang memaksa banyak keluarga meninggalkan rumah dan tenda mereka dalam kegelapan.
Militer Israel membantah dalam sebuah pernyataan bahwa mereka telah melancarkan serangan apa pun di dalam zona kemanusiaan Al-Mawasi.
Israel mengatakan serangannya bertujuan untuk melenyapkan unit tempur terakhir Hamas yang masih utuh di Rafah, sebuah kota yang menampung lebih dari satu juta orang sebelum serangan terakhir dimulai.
Kebanyakan dari mereka kini telah pindah ke utara menuju Khan Younis dan Deir Al-Balah di Jalur Gaza tengah.(*)
