The S660 is Honda's mid-engined kei sports car: 660cc, turbocharged from the factory, and claimed at 63hp because kei cars were capped there by agreement between the manufacturers. Except when we put mine on the dyno it made more than claimed. Honda, it turns out, were being modest.
So it went to Torque GT in Devon for the full HKS turbo conversion — bigger turbo, high-flow sports cat, water-cooled charge cooler, uprated fuel pump, induction kit, exhaust and ECU flash — plus a complete Spoon Sports chassis package: coilovers, four-piston big brake kit, vented discs, anti-roll bars, chassis bracing, motion control beam and SW388 forged wheels on Nankang NS-2R tyres.
HKS claim their kit is good for 100hp. We got more. Then I drove a standard S660 back to back with mine and ran the quarter mile to find out what all that hardware actually buys you.
This was also a test for my Japanese import business — I want to start bringing in sports cars alongside the Jimnys and Land Cruisers, and offering buyers these tuning parts before the car's delivered. Should I? Let me know in the comments.
