Vor der parlamentarischen Sommerpause stellt sich der jeweilige Bundesanzler oder die Bundeskanzlerin den Medienvertretern der Bundespressekonferenz. In diesem Jahr erstmals Bundeskanzler Friedrich Merz. Sein Start Anfang Mai war verpatzt, da er erst im zweiten Anlauf gewählt wurde. Jetzt, nach 74 Tagen im Amt, gab er sich angriffslustig und offen für alle Fragen. Ein wichtiges Thema war die missglückte Wahl zum Bundesverfassungsgericht. Der Kanzler selbst interessiert sich vor allem für Außenpolitik, und kam gerade zurück aus London von einem Treffen mit Premierminister Starmer.
