President Donald Trump has reportedly submitted Iran a 15-point plan that could ultimately lead to a ceasefire, as Iranian leadership claims talks between the US and the current Iranian regime are not happening and that the US has no bargaining power. Reuters reports the US military is also expected to send an additional 3,000 to 4,000 troops to the Middle East as the war with Iran nears the one month mark.Senators are working behind the scene to salvage a proposal to end the Department of Homeland Security shutdown by funding much of the department, including airport workers going without pay, but excluding immigration operations that have been core to the dispute. An estimated 11 percent of TSA workers scheduled for Monday called out of work, according to DHS.
One of only two air traffic controllers on duty at LaGuardia Airport cleared a fire truck to cross a runway just 12 seconds before an Air Canada flight touched down, leaving little time to avoid the collision that killed both pilots, the NTSB said. The National Transportation Safety Board is working to determine which of the airport’s many layers of safety precautions failed and allowed the fire truck onto the runway Sunday night, leading to a crash that killed two pilots and injured dozens of other people.
