Nigeria: Fake Agency Escapes Tinubu's Attention, Captures Nearly $1 Million | Firstpost Africa

Nigeria's presidency is reeling from a bizarre institutional scandal involving a completely fictitious government department, the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). The mastermind, Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, reportedly established high-end offices inside Abuja’s Federal Secretariat and secured Central Bank account access by utilising forged presidential signatures and official seals. The plot thickened when the non-existent agency appeared in the 2026 national budget with an allocation of nearly $1 million. While the Accountant-General's office insists no public funds were disbursed, Matthew has fiercely defended his operations. He claims the agency is legitimate and instead accuses senior officials of soliciting massive bribes. President Bola Tinubu has ordered an aggressive 30-day anti-corruption probe to determine how this security and administrative breakdown slipped through legislative and executive oversight. The trial is scheduled for late July 2026, leaving public trust deeply shaken. Alyson Le Grange brings you more on this story on Firstpost Africa.
