China has created a new artificial island in the disputed waters of the East Vietnam Sea. The Antelope Reef, which sits East of Vietnam is in the disputed Paracel Islands that have been controlled by China and are claimed by Vietnam. New satellite imagery shows China has rapidly developed a military base on the reef, including a naval docking port, a runway and a command centre. Beijing claims the infrastructure will be used for monitoring the weather. However, Vietnam has slammed the Chinese activity and called the infrastructure 'illegal and invalid.'
