China, Russia Build Hypersonic Missiles as Trump Settles for Tomahawks | Vantage on Firstpost | 4K
The United States has signed a major contract to procure more Tomahawk cruise missiles with Raytheon being handed the $23 Billion contract. As per the deal, Raytheon will increase Tomahawk missile production from around to 60 to 200 to more than 1,000 per year. The Tomahawk is a few decades old but serves as one of the major attack platforms in the US Navy and US Army for deep precision strikes. While the US is doubling down on the Tomahawk subsonic cruise missile, China and Russia are increasing their ballistic and hypersonic missile arsenal. As per estimates, China is producing nearly 200 hypersonic missiles every year, with Russia making upto 180 hypersonic weapons every year. On the other hand, the US has witnessed at least 10 major hypersonic weapon testing failures owing to technological challenges and soaring costs. Is the US losing the missile race?
