Per la nuova eruzione, iniziata a giugno, la Protezione Civile ha da poco dichiarato lo stato di mobilitazione straordinaria del Servizio nazionale, con conseguente attività di monitoraggio del vulcano e misure di precauzione per i presenti sull'isola. "Abbiamo l’obbligo - dice il ministro della Protezione civile, Nello Musumeci - di stare sempre in guardia e di immaginare sempre lo scenario peggiore, augurandoci quello migliore".
