Wärter:innen der JVA Augsburg-Gablingen sollen Gefangene aus Spaß systematisch gedemütigt und misshandelt haben. Das geht aus Recherchen von BR und Kontraste hervor. Spezialzellen sollen zur Bestrafung und Schikane genutzt worden sein, so der Vorwurf. Hinzu kommen massive Gewalt-Vorwürfe: Ermittelnden zufolge, sollen Häftlinge gewürgt, mit Faustschlägen ins Gesicht und Tritten in den Brustkorb traktiert worden sein, teils mit dem Einsatz des Schlagstocks. Sogar vor kranken oder verletzten Gefangenen sollen JVA-Beamt:innen der SIG keinen Halt gemacht haben. Die Vizechefin der JVA soll bei den Übergriffen teils selbst zugegen gewesen sein.Die frühere Bundesjustizministerin Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger spricht von „Abgründen“. Es sei der größte Skandal in einer Justizvollzugsanstalt in der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik.
