Shri Martandabhairava Stotram (श्रीमार्तण्डभैरवस्तोत्रम्) is a powerful Sanskrit hymn dedicated to Martanda Bhairava, a radiant and formidable manifestation of the divine associated with Bhairava, Shiva, solar brilliance, spiritual illumination and the destruction of darkness.

Throughout its 22 verses, Martanda Bhairava is praised as Paramatma, Sthanu, Shambhu, Mahabhairava, Kshetesha, the essence of the Vedas, the reality of mantra and yantra, and the radiant Bharga that destroys ignorance, fear and inner impurity.

A major theme of this stotram is Bharga — divine radiance that burns away or dispels what binds consciousness. Martanda Bhairava is invoked as the destroyer of Ajnana (ignorance), Moha (delusion), Maya's darkness, fear, suffering, anger, greed, harmful desires, poverty, sorrow, destructive tendencies and spiritual obscuration.

The hymn also connects Bhairava with Om, the Vedas, mantra, yantra, disciplined yogic practice, the Sun, fire and supreme spiritual knowledge. The concluding verses praise Him as Mahamartanda, the supreme radiant Lord whose brilliance transcends even the Sun, Moon and fire.

Traditionally, Bhairava worship is associated with courage, protection, overcoming fear, spiritual discipline and the destruction of inner darkness. This hymn is especially suitable for Bhairava worship, Kalashtami, Sunday spiritual practice, Shiva meditation, morning prayer, mantra sadhana and deep contemplative listening.
