Dari laporan The New Arab, Yasser Abu Shahab adalah tokoh yang punya koneksi di Rafah dan dikenal sebagai aktivis kriminal.
Milisi tersebut berevolusi dari geng kriminal yang terorganisasi secara longgar menjadi kelompok Salafi-jihadis yang terinspirasi oleh kelompok Negara Islam (ISIS).
Laporan tersebut mengklaim Abu Shabab dan anak buahnya terlibat dalam perdagangan narkoba dan senjata, sering kali melintasi perbatasan antara Gaza dan wilayah Sinai di Mesir, tempat kelompok-kelompok yang berafiliasi dengan ISIS telah beroperasi selama bertahun-tahun. (Tribun-Video.com)
