Bangladesh on December 25 reported another case of lynching of a Hindu man, just days after the killing of 27-year-old Dipu Chandra Das, intensifying concerns over mob violence and the safety of religious minorities. The latest victim, 30-year-old Amrit Mondal, was beaten to death by villagers in a district around 150 kilometres from Dhaka late on December 24th. Police claim the attack was linked to alleged extortion-related disputes and insist it was not communally motivated. The interim government condemned the killing but warned against portraying it as a communal incident. The death comes amid widespread unrest following the killing of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi, which triggered protests and vandalism nationwide. Meanwhile, ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has accused the current regime of failing to protect minorities.---
