Trump Signs Executive Order to Centralise AI Regulation, Flanked by Sacks and Bessent | N18G

President Donald Trump has signed a sweeping executive order to centralise artificial intelligence regulation, aiming to replace a 'patchwork' of state laws with a single national framework. Speaking at the White House, Trump declared, 'We want to have one central source of approval,' warning that 50 different state regulations would stifle innovation. He argued that companies cannot be expected to navigate '50 different approvals' and that a unified approach is essential for national security. White House AI and Crypto Czar David Sacks, who helped author the order, noted that over 1,000 AI bills are currently moving through state legislatures, with 25% in California, New York, and Illinois. He stated the order gives the administration tools to 'push back on the most onerous and excessive state regulations.' Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described the AI race with China as 'pass/fail,' emphasising the need to maintain America's lead in the 'biggest industry that anybody's seen.' The President also touted the stock market hitting an all-time high for the '52nd time in 10 months' and credited his tariff policies for generating 'hundreds of billions of dollars' and reviving the auto industry.
