CDU-Generalsekretär Schnieder will Spitzenkandidat seiner Partei für die nächste Landtagswahl in Rheinland-Pfalz werden. Im SWR Aktuell-Sommerinterview sagte Schnieder, wenn seine Partei ihn im September zum Landesvorsitzenden wähle, werde er sich um die Spitzenkandidatur bewerben. Mit Blick auf die aktuell laufende Debatte über die Ausweisung von straffälligen oder gewaltbereiten Asylbewerbern stellte Schnieder sich hinter den Vorschlag von Bayerns Ministerpräsidenten Markus Söder (CSU).
