Jet tempur itu dikerahkan lantaran Thailand menuduh Kamboja melakukan pelanggaran.
Oleh sebab itu, pengerahan jet tempur diklaim sebagai pembelaan diri Thailand.
Hal itu disampaikan juru bicara Angkatan Udara Thailand, Marsekal Udara Prapas Sornjaidee pada Selasa (29/7).
Ia mengonfirmasi pengerahan jet tempur F-16 dan Gripen dalam misi dukungan tempur di sepanjang perbatasan Thailand-Kamboja.
Pihaknya menegaskan F-16 dikerahkan merupakan tindakan yang sah berdasarkan Pasal 51 Piagam PBB.
Hal ini demi mengurngai risiko bagi warga sipil dan menciptakan kondisi strategis yang kondusif.
Sementara sebelumnya, Angkatan Bersenjata Kerajaan Thailand (RTARF) mengutuk Kamboja.
Pasalnya Kamboja disebut melanggar gencatan senjata yang baru disepakati.
Pasukan Kamboja dilaporkan melancarkan serangan ke beberapa lokasi di Thailand seusai gencatan senjata diberlakukan.
Bahkan Thailand menyebut saat ini Kamboja sudah menjadi ancaman bagi keamanan regional dan global.
