How to Find the BEST Options Trades for Earnings Season

Earnings season brings the biggest moves of the quarter. Tony Zhang of OptionsPlay shows how to find, rank, and structure options trades on earnings in about a minute a day.

With hundreds of companies reporting every week, the hard part isn't finding earnings. It's knowing which ones deserve your attention. Tony walks through his Scan, Rank, Strike workflow live inside StockCharts:

- Scan: use the StockCharts Screener to find S&P 500 stocks reporting in the next five days that have listed options
- Rank: sort by SCTR and 3-month performance to build a bullish list and a bearish list
- Automate: save and schedule the scan so your ChartList updates itself every day at the close
- Strike: run that list through the OptionsPlay Strategy Center to compare defined-risk trades like bull put spreads and bear put spreads, sized to the most you're willing to risk

He also works a live example on the bearish side, where bank stocks heading into their reports lined up with the best risk/reward, and explains why going from searching to picking leads to better position sizing, cleaner order entry, and fewer rushed fills.
