Nella mattinata del 6 novembre gli attivisti di Animal Equality sono stati raggiunti dal lancio di alcuni oggetti davanti all’Excelsior Hotel Gallia di Milano durante una protesta pacifica per chiedere il rispetto dell’impegno cage-free da parte di Marriott International (a cui l'hotel fa capo).
Una cliente dell’hotel - infastidita dai cori del gruppo - ha lanciato vari oggetti, come bottiglie d’acqua, piccoli flaconi di bagnoschiuma e sali da bagno, dal balcone della sua camera. Poi è scesa in strada in accappatoio e ciabatte di spugna cercando anche di raggiungere il gruppo, prima di essere fermata dalla sicurezza dell'hotel.
Animal Equality denuncia che le aggressioni contro chi difende i diritti degli animali non sono rare e chiede a Marriott di rispettare l’impegno preso nel 2016: eliminare l’uso di uova da galline allevate in gabbia (previsto entro il 2025 e non ancora portato a compimento).
Secondo studi recenti dell’Università di Padova e dell’Istituto Zooprofilattico delle Venezie, le galline allevate in gabbia soffrono gravi lesioni, fratture e piaghe, evidenziando l’urgenza di politiche più trasparenti e sostenibili.
