Mikroplastik ist weit verbreitet und langlebig. Prof. Alexander Kekulé erklärt, wie die Teilchen in unseren Körper gelangen und uns krankmachen. Dabei geht er zusammen mit Host Susann Böttcher auch auf aktuelle Studien ein. Sie zeigen, dass beim Menschen Mikroplastik im Gehirn, in der Gebärmutter oder im Herzmuskel zu finden ist. Immer deutlicher wird, dass zahlreiche Krankheiten darauf zurückzuführen sind. Welche sind das? Wie können wir uns schützen?Kekulé erklärt in dieser Folge auch, wie die Industrie auf einen Großteil der Mikroplastik verzichten könnte. Außerdem werden gerade Technologien entwickelt, die Mikroplastik zersetzen können. Diese haben nach Kekulés Ausführung aber viele Nachteile. Maßnahmen wie das Verbot von Plastikstrohhalmen sieht er kritisch. Das sei vor allem Symbolpolitik. Wichtiger sei, dass sich die Vereinten Nationen auf einen globalen Plastikvertrag einigten. Warum lässt der so lange auf sich warten?
