Alberta targets “ideology” in public school classrooms

The Alberta government is introducing a new education bill aimed at ensuring classroom neutrality and preventing teachers from “imposing their personal views” on students.

Alberta Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides joins Marc Patrone to discuss the legislation, which focuses on teaching students “how to think, not what to think,” strengthening parental involvement in education, and reinforcing core academic priorities in schools.

Nicolaides says classrooms should remain focused on subjects like reading, writing, and math, and avoid “social issues of the day” in instruction.

The proposal is part of a broader effort to clarify expectations for classroom instruction and support consistency across Alberta schools.
