This Changes How I Review Recurve Limbs
What actually makes one set of recurve limbs feel smoother, stack harder, or perform differently than another? We can finally measure it with repeatable data.I’ve used draw force curves on the channel before, but eventually I stopped because I wasn’t happy with the repeatability of my old testing system. Being able to measure something isn’t enough if you can’t reproduce the measurement days, weeks, or months later.
In this video, I’ll show you how our new DFC system works, why it’s dramatically more repeatable than my previous setup, how we calibrated the load cell, and most importantly, what a draw force curve actually tells you about a set of recurve limbs.
We’ll look at draw force curves, draw weight changes through the clicker, limb stacking and smoothness, hysteresis, stored and returned energy, and how the data relates to what an archer actually feels while shooting.
This is also the beginning of something much bigger. I’ll be using the same standardized testing system for future recurve limb reviews and building a database so we can compare different limb models, constructions, brands, and eventually even changes over time.
The data won’t tell you which limb you’re going to like. But it can help explain why two limbs feel different.
