Aktivitas penggalian yang terus dilanjutkan itu dikhawatirkan bisa merusak fondasi situs suci Al-Aqsa.
Dilansir dari Middle East Monitor pada Rabu (1/10), aktivitas penggalian terowongan di Yerusalem Timur hingga saat ini terus berlanjut.
Meskipun diiringi berbagai kritik dan protes mengenai kerusakan yang ditimbulkan namun penggalian tersebut tetap berlanjut.
Kegubernuran Palestina Yerusalem melaporkan bahwa galian terowongan di bawah Masjid Al-Aqsa telah menghancurkan sejumlah artefak Islam.
Otoritas pun menuduh Israel sengaja menghancurkan artefak Islam yang berasal dari zaman Umayyah.
Hal itu karena peninggalan tersebut merupakan bukti hidup dan konklusif mengenai kepemilikan sah umat Islam atas situs tersebut.
Sementara itu para kritikus juga menyoroti kekhawatiran akan Masjid Al Aqsa yang terancam roboh buntut galian terowongan yang dilakukan Israel.
Mereka menilai Israel sedang melanjutkan penggalian terowongan untuk memperkuat klaim historisnya atas Yerusalem.
