Petro menegaskan bahwa dirinya tak terganggu dengan kebijakan tersebut.
Pernyataan ini disampaikan Petro melalui unggahan di media sosialnya pada Sabtu (27/9/2025).
Dirinya mengakui jika dirinya saat ini tak memiliki visa untuk bepergian ke AS.
Meski demikian, Petro menegaskan jika dirinya tak peduli dengan hal itu.
Menurutnya, dirinya tak butuh visa, pasalnya, ia bukan hanya warga Kolombia melainkan juga warga negara Eropa.
“Saya tidak lagi punya visa untuk bepergian ke Amerika Serikat. Saya tidak peduli. Saya tidak butuh visa karena saya bukan hanya warga negara Kolombia, tetapi juga warga negara Eropa, dan saya sungguh-sungguh menganggap diri saya orang bebas di dunia,” ujarnya.
Presiden Kolombia itu menilai pencabutan visa akibat kritiknya terhadap serangan Israel di Gaza adalah bentuk pelanggaran hukum internasional.
Ia menuding Amerika Serikat berusaha membungkam suara kritik terhadap apa yang disebutnya sebagai “genosida di Gaza.
“Mencabutnya karena mengecam genosida menunjukkan AS tidak lagi menghormati hukum internasional,” tulisnya di X.
Keputusan pencabutan visa ini semakin mempertegang hubungan Bogotá dan Washington yang belakangan kerap diwarnai ketegangan.
Namun, bagi Petro, langkah tersebut justru menjadi dorongan untuk semakin vokal membela Palestina di panggung internasional.
