Secondo l’assessore di Roma Capitale, la decisione della Rai rappresenta l’esito di un percorso volto a colpire "una trasmissione di grande successo da tantissimi anni che dava fastidio con le sue inchieste".Pur ricordando come il tentativo della politica di controllare il servizio pubblico abbia attraversato governi diversi, Onorato sostiene che con l’attuale esecutivo si sia andati "forse oltre".Al centro del suo intervento anche il tema dell’indipendenza del servizio pubblico e della libertà d’informazione. Onorato critica il mancato funzionamento della Commissione di Vigilanza Rai e difende il valore del giornalismo d’inchiesta, avvertendo che la perdita di una voce libera avrebbe conseguenze per tutti i cittadini, "a prescindere da quello che votano".
