Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Wednesday that his country plans to recognize Palestinian statehood later this year. While speaking to reporters in Ottawa, Carney said Canada intends to recognize the state of Palestine at the 80th General Assembly of the United Nations" later this year. The move follows a similar announcement by France. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said this week that his country will do the same unless Israel agrees to a ceasefire in Gaza.Carney posted on X:
"Canada has long been committed to a two-state solution — an independent, viable, and sovereign Palestinian state living side by side with the State of Israel in peace and security."
