Ukraine Attacks Russia’s Major Grain Terminals | Global Food Crisis Fears Grow
The Russia-Ukraine war is threatening one of the world’s most important grain export corridors after Ukrainian attacks disrupted major grain terminals at Russia’s Black Sea port of Novorossiysk.Russia has warned of potential chaos in global food markets, while Ukraine has reportedly offered Russia a proposal to halt attacks on civilian targets in the Black Sea. Moscow has yet to respond.
The escalation comes as Russia launches another major drone assault on Ukraine. Kyiv says 133 drones were deployed, with air defenses intercepting 111. Several regions reported casualties and damage.
The situation at Novorossiysk is particularly significant because the port is a major Russian grain export hub. Reports indicate that three large grain terminals suspended operations after infrastructure was damaged, disrupting shipments.
Russia and Ukraine together account for a substantial share of global wheat exports. With Black Sea shipments already under pressure, attacks on grain infrastructure could further affect food prices, agricultural markets, shipping routes and global food security.
