EL SIONISMO (Un movimiento político que casi nadie te explica bien)
Voy a darte un dato que probablemente te sorprenda. O quizás no. Según varias encuestas, alrededor del 90% de los judíos israelíes se identifican como sionistas. Y si tu primera reacción es pensar que el sionismo es una especie de creencia religiosa milenaria, un anhelo místico que existe desde que los judíos fueron expulsados de su tierra hace dos mil años… espera, porque te equivocas. Y no es tu culpa: casi nadie te lo explica bien.El sionismo no es una religión. Es un movimiento político. Y, lo más importante para entender todo lo que vino después: no nació en Jerusalén ni en el Mar Muerto. Nació en Europa, en plena efervescencia nacionalista del siglo XIX. Es contemporáneo de la unificación italiana y de la alemana.
Hijo del mismo zeitgeist, de la misma idea: cada pueblo, un Estado.
Para que esta idea pudiera surgir entre los judíos, hubo que dar un paso radical. Tuvieron que, en palabras de los propios pioneros, "abandonar su fe mesiánica" y "liberarse de las limitaciones religiosas". Es decir: dejar de esperar a que un mesías llegara para redimirlos, y empezar a tomar las riendas de su propio destino aquí, en este mundo. Suena bonito, ¿verdad? Lo era. Pero, como vamos a ver, el detalle de cómo se hace eso lo cambia todo. ¿Qué empujó a los judíos europeos a dar el salto?
