Air India Launches ‘No-Meal’ Economy Tickets To Attract Budget Travellers | FP Explains

Air India has introduced a new ‘Basic’ economy fare that lets passengers save money by giving up complimentary in-flight meals. The fare, currently being piloted on select domestic routes, targets price-conscious travellers while retaining a 15 kg checked baggage allowance, a 7 kg cabin bag and complimentary tea or coffee. Passengers who want a meal can still pre-order one up to 24 hours before departure. The move is part of Air India’s ongoing transformation under the Tata Group as it competes more aggressively with low-cost carriers. Customer feedback from the trial will determine whether the no-meal fare is expanded across the airline’s network.
