El 26 de agosto de 2026, parte de un glaciar de gran altitud en Nepal se desplomó repentinamente. En apenas 7 minutos, la masa de hielo y escombros recorrió 20 kilómetros y se transformó en un flujo de lodo y escombros que se precipitó hacia el puerto fronterizo de Gyirong, en China, causando numerosas víctimas y dejando personas desaparecidas a ambos lados de la frontera. El gobierno chino está movilizando diversos recursos para realizar todos los esfuerzos posibles en las operaciones de rescate.Avalanchas de hielo, flujos de escombros, corrientes de lodo… El calentamiento global está alterando la estabilidad de los glaciares. Desde Chamoli, en India, hasta Blatten, en Suiza, este tipo de desastres geológicos se repite en distintos puntos del planeta. Los glaciares retroceden, el permafrost pierde estabilidad y las montañas se vuelven cada vez más vulnerables.
