A Otto e mezzo, Lucio Caracciolo, direttore di Limes, ha ricordato come l’espansione territoriale sia parte fondativa della storia degli Stati Uniti. “Gli americani sono nati in questo modo”, ha spiegato, citando l’acquisto della Louisiana nel 1803, che trasformò gli USA in una grande potenza continentale, seguito poi dall’acquisto dell’Alaska dai russi.Secondo Caracciolo, questa logica storica aiuta a comprendere alcune dinamiche attuali. L’idea di “comprarsi un pezzo di qua e uno di là” non rappresenterebbe quindi una novità assoluta, ma un ritorno a una prassi già utilizzata in passato per rafforzare il peso geopolitico americano.Nel suo intervento, Caracciolo ipotizza che Donald Trump possa incaricare Marco Rubio di avviare un confronto con la Danimarca per “fissare un prezzo”. Se la trattativa non dovesse andare a buon fine, avverte l’analista, Washington potrebbe valutare “strumenti più estremi”, in un contesto internazionale sempre più segnato dal diritto del più forte.
