Perubahan ini mengharuskan semua warga Denmark berusia 18 tahun untuk mendaftar dalam seleksi wajib militer.
Dikutip dari Tribunnews (3/7), wanita hanya bergabung secara sukarela, namun kini akan diwajibkan menjalani dinas militer selama 11 bulan.
Lima bulan pertama akan diisi dengan pelatihan dasar, sementara enam bulan sisanya untuk penugasan operasional di unit militer.
Kepala Staf Pertahanan Denmark, Jenderal Michael Wiggers, menyatakan kebijakan ini bertujuan untuk memodernisasi militer negara.
Kolonel Kenneth Strom menjelaskan bahwa kebijakan ini diambil karena meningkatnya ketegangan keamanan di Eropa.
Denmark juga mengalokasikan anggaran pertahanan tambahan dalam jumlah milyaran dolar dalam lima tahun mendatang.
Dengan perubahan ini, jumlah rekrutan militer diharapkan meningkat secara signifikan pada 2033.
Beberapa fasilitas militer juga akan disesuaikan agar lebih inklusif terhadap wanita, termasuk perlengkapan militer seperti seragam dan ransel.
