Setelah melakukan pertemuan itu, Trump sepakat mendukung usulan Rusia mengambil alih kendali penuh atas dua wilayah Ukraina.
Menurut sumber, Putin secara de facto menuntut Ukraina meninggalkan Donbas.
Wilayah tersebut terdiri dari Donetsk dan Luhansk di Ukraina timur.
Menurut sumber, Trump cenderung menyetujui rencana Putin.
"Trump cenderung mendukungnya," kata sumber itu.
Tak hanya setuju Rusia mengambil alih kendali penuh atas dua wilayah Ukraina, Trump juga setuju membekukan garis depan di dua wilayah lain yang hanya sebagian dikuasai Moskow.
Putin menyebut, apabila tuntutan Rusia dipenuhi, militernya akan menghentikan serangan ke wilayah Kherson dan Zaporizhzhia.
Setelah bertemu dengan Putin, Trump kemudian melakukan pembicaraan dengan Presiden Ukraina Volodymyr Zelensky pada Sabtu (16/8).
Tak hanya dengan Zelensky, Trump juga berbicara dengan pemimpin Eropa tentang pembicaraannya dengan Putin.
Kepada Trump, Zelensky menolak dengan tegas untuk meninggalkan Donbas.
"Presiden Ukraina menolak meninggalkan Donbas," kata sumber itu.
Alasan menolak meninggalkan wilayah tersebut karena dirinya terikat oleh konstitusi Ukraina.
Namun, ia tidak menutup kemungkinan untuk membahas masalah tersebut dalam pertemuan trilateral dengan Trump dan Putin.
