France is witnessing massive student-led protests as demonstrations over poor school conditions, teacher shortages, overcrowded classrooms and education funding have spread across the country. On October 6, more than 266,000 people were counted by France’s Interior Ministry in nationwide demonstrations, while organisers put the figure higher.
Amid the unrest, US President Donald Trump claimed that the French protests were not primarily about schools but about “out of control mass migration” and said that “Islam” was seeking to take over France. Trump made the comments on Truth Social as the protests intensified.
But what are French students actually protesting about? Why have hundreds of schools been disrupted or closed? What is the role of teachers, unions and the French government? And why has the issue become connected to the wider debate over migration, Islam, European politics and the rise of right-wing politics?
In this video, we explain the France student protests 2026, the reasons behind the demonstrations, police clashes, Trump’s reaction, the migration debate and the wider geopolitical and political significance of the unrest.
Topics covered: France student protests 2026, Trump on France protests, Trump Islam statement, France migration debate, French education crisis, France school protests, police clashes in France, Macron government, European politics, US-France relations and current affairs for UPSC.
