But our voyage is about to turn into 75 days of pure torture and put our lives at risk.
Someone among us is carrying a infectious virus called hantavirus. And within just one week, the infection will claim the life of its first victim. Then the virus will begin spreading through the ship. As new cases emerge, more deaths will follow. And the whole world will panic.
This is going to be the kind of journey that turns my hair gray. The most stressful journey of my life is about to begin.
The journey begins with 45 hours of air travel and multiple connections. We’re flying from Istanbul, Türkiye, all the way to Ushuaia, at the southern tip of Argentina. It’s a city known as “the End of the World.” From there, we’ll board our ship for a roughly 30-day voyage to Tristan da Cunha. After that, we’ll spend another 42 days in quarantine.
