Trump Brokers DR Congo, Rwanda Truce Without M23 Representatives | Firstpost Africa | N18GA peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda was signed in Washington on Friday(June 27), aiming to end the decades-long conflict in eastern Congo. The deal, brokered by the US, includes a 90-day withdrawal of Rwandan troops from eastern Congo and a framework for regional economic integration. The Washington-brokered truce signed between the two countries has been met with both praise and criticism. While the deal is seen as a turning point, analysts don’t believe it will quickly end the fighting. Many Congolese see it mainly as an opportunity for Washington to acquire critical minerals needed for much of the world’s technology. Moreover, the M23 rebels suggested that the agreement wouldn’t be binding for them.
