Myanmar’s military-led election sees low turnout in first phase amid credibility doubts

The first phase of Myanmar’s general election appears to have seen low voter turnout, though no official figures are available yet.
Critics argue that public participation was limited because the vote was not designed to accurately reflect the will of the people.
Instead, they argue the election aims to ease Myanmar’s international isolation after the military coup.
The process is widely viewed as controlled by the military-backed authorities.
Opposition groups and rights organisations have questioned the credibility of the ballot.
Analysts say the vote is more about geopolitics than democratic reform.

Al Jazeera’s Tony Cheng reports from Bago, Myanmar, on the political calculations behind the election.
