My photography community: parkerphotographic.short.gy/PhotoMation

After 37 years as a photographer, thereโ€™s one thing Iโ€™d do differently if I had to start over... shorten the feedback loop.

We have more photography information available today than ever before... blogs, YouTube, online courses, Facebook groups, and now AI.

But learning more isnโ€™t the same as getting better.

When I started, I was shooting film.

Iโ€™d finish a roll, wait days to get my prints back, and by then I couldnโ€™t remember what aperture I used, why I stood where I did, or what I was trying to create.

Today, you can see your image seconds after you press the shutter... but your camera still canโ€™t tell you why you donโ€™t like it.

Thatโ€™s where a lot of us get stuck in trial and error for months, or even years.

If youโ€™ve watched every photography for beginners tutorial you can find and still donโ€™t feel confident, this is where Iโ€™d start.

In this video, Iโ€™ll show you how getting your images in front of experienced photographers helps you see what youโ€™re missing.

Maybe your subject is too close to the background.

Maybe thereโ€™s a bright branch behind the birdโ€™s head.

Maybe the foreground is competing with what your landscape is supposed to be about.

Theyโ€™re not making the creative decision for you... theyโ€™re helping you see what you werenโ€™t seeing yet.

And with enough repetition, you start recognizing those things yourself, sometimes before you even press the shutter.

Thatโ€™s how you train your creative eye and build confidence, whether youโ€™re brand new or picking up a camera again after 50.

But the feedback has to come from the right people.

Over 30 years ago, my mentor laughed at my photos... and that kept me figuring things out on my own for a long time.

Thatโ€™s one of the reasons I created PhotoMation, a supportive community where you can share what youโ€™re creating and get feedback from experienced photographers, including me.

And thereโ€™s zero tolerance for bullies, trolls, or bad behavior.
