Tensions in the Gulf are rising as Iran’s retaliatory strikes against US allies place the United Arab Emirates under increasing pressure. Authorities on March 10 said air defences intercepted incoming missiles and drones, while the country has temporarily banned civil drone operations and light sport aircraft. In Erbil, eyewitness footage showed smoke rising near the UAE consulate after drones were shot down nearby. As the security situation worsens, Anthony Albanese says Australia will deploy surveillance aircraft to support the UAE. The conflict is also disrupting travel, with flights cancelled and tourists stranded. India says more than 52,000 citizens have already left the Gulf.
