Am Strand von Niendorf kämpft ein gestrandeter Buckelwal weiter ums Überleben. Die Situation lasse niemanden kalt, und doch bleibe oft nur das Warten, sagte Carsten Mannheimer von der Organisation Sea Shepherd der Deutschen Presse-Agentur. «Ich würde gerne mehr machen.»
Doch momentan herrscht Stillstand. Ein weiterer Rettungsversuch am Dienstag mit einem Saugbagger war gescheitert. Der Bagger hatte nicht genug Kraft, um den festen Sand wegzuschaffen. Nun soll größeres Gerät Abhilfe schaffen, das aber voraussichtlich erst am Donnerstag zum Einsatz kommen kann.
Das Jungtier liegt seit Montagfrüh auf einer Sandbank vor Niendorf, einem Ortsteil von Timmendorfer Strand. Sein Rücken ragt aus dem Wasser und die brummenden Töne, die der Wal von sich gibt, sind noch hunderte Meter entfernt zu hören.
«Wir müssen zuschauen und jetzt abwarten, wie es weitergeht», sagte Mannheimer. Ganz verhindern ließen sich solche Fälle kaum, auch wenn bessere Vorbereitung helfen könnte. «Man könnte ein bisschen aufstocken, was das Equipment angeht.» Es gäbe verschiedene technische Gerätschaften, um Wale wieder zu befreien. Die Hoffnung, dass es der Wal doch noch zurück ins tiefere Wasser schafft, gebe er aber nicht auf.
