Israel disebut-sebut ingin menjadikan Suriah seperti Lebanon.
Adapun alasan yang pertama adalah ingin menjaga Suriah tetap tidak stabil.
Dosen Keamanan Internasional di King's College London, Rob Geist Pinfold mengatakan motivasi Israel sejak jatuhnya pemimpin Suriah Bashar al-Assad adalah menjaga Suriah tetap tidak stabil dengan pemerintahan pusat yang lemah.
"Pada dasarnya untuk mengekspor model Lebanon ke Suriah," ujarnya kepada Al Jazeera.
Kedua, Israel tidak ingin AS mencabut sanksi terhadap rezim Suriah.
Seperti diketahui belum lama ini AS di bawah kepemimpinan Trump mencabut sanksi terhadap rezim Suriah.
"Tampaknya hal itu bisa berubah. AS di bawah Trump, seperti yang kita lihat belum lama ini, mencabut sanksi terhadap rezim Suriah. Israel tidak menginginkannya, tetapi Israel didorong oleh AS dan aktor-aktor lain ke posisi yang lebih konsiliatif," ungkap Geist Pinfold.
Ketiga, Israel sepertinya ingin memperpanjang perang dengan Suriah.
Geist Pinfold juga memperingatkan serangan terhadap Damaskus dapat dengan cepat meningkat menjadi sesuatu yang lebih besar.
Ia memprediksi serangan Israel bisa saja lebih lama dan lebih berbahaya serta merusak di seluruh Suriah.
