Chris Crawford (Comstock, MI) Highlights vs. Pistons
February 27, 2004 - To date, Chris Crawford is likely the only player in Southwest Michigan's Wolverine Conference history to step foot on an NBA basketball court. Hailing from Comstock High School near Kalamazoo, Crawford spent four years at Marquette before being selected in the second round of the 1997 NBA Draft.Beginning in the lockout-shortened 1999 season, Crawford began to emerge as a reliable piece off the bench, averaging close to seven points per game for a Dikembe Mutombo/Mookie Blaylock-led Hawks outfit.
By 2004, Crawford was a reliable spot starter, averaging over 10 points per game while shooting close to 39 percent from deep. Alas, Crawford's career was ultimately cut short on account of significant knee injuries. After tearing the ACL in his left knee in 2001, Crawford tore the ACL and lateral meniscus in his right knee in the lead-up to the 2004-05 season, marking a premature end to his seven-year NBA career.
Comstock, meanwhile, formerly a Class B (Div. II school), has seen their student enrollment drop by more than half since Crawford's high school days in the early '90s. They are now members of the Southwest 10, alongside more historically quaint communities like White Pigeon, Centreville, and Hartford.
