Southern California fire grows to 3,500+ acres, triggering mandatory evacuations
The Springs Fire near Moreno Valley has surged to 3,500+ acres as it threatens thousands of homes in Riverside County.Now at 5% containment, the blaze is racing toward Perris and surrounding communities under a high wind warning, forcing thousands of residents to flee as firefighters work to secure the rapidly expanding perimeter.
FOX 11 LA is also tracking another fire in Southern California, the Crown Fire. That fire has reached 280 acres, prompting additional evacuation warnings.
HIGH WINDS:
The National Weather Service has issued High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories across Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
Forecasters expect powerful northeast winds ranging from 25 to 35 mph, with dangerous gusts reaching up to 55 mph in mountain areas and the Highway 14 corridor through 6 p.m.
The exact cause of both fires remains under investigation.
