How come BRICS isn’t falling apart? | DW News

The intergovernmental organization BRICS, which was born 15 years ago with the foundation of BRIC, named after its founding members Brazil, Russia, India and China and has now grown to encompass ten member states accounting for half the world population. But it’s also a highly diverse organization, and its members don’t always share the same geopolitical goals. And when major divisions appear, the bloc appears stymied because of the need for motions to be carried unanimously. The Iran war is one such trigger, with Iran on the one side and two other countries with starkly different loyalties, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. And the conflict also has implications for other member states. India, for example, has been loath to speak up against the US as it seeks to persuade Donal Trump to lower his tariffs on India.
DW explores how the bloc manages to stay together despite its members drifting apart.
