Penggerebekan ini dilakukan di beberapa lokasi strategis di Manila dan Cebu Kamis (20/02), yang menyebabkan 137 warga negara Cina ditahan.
Operator game online Filipina (POGO), yang dilarang oleh Presiden Ferdinand Marcos tahun lalu, diduga digunakan sebagai kedok oleh kelompok kejahatan terorganisir untuk perdagangan manusia, pencucian uang, penipuan online, penculikan, hingga pembunuhan.
Pemerintah Filipina sejak tahun lalu telah melarang sindikat ini.
Namun, masih banyak yang beroperasi secara ilegal dengan jaringan internasional yang rumit.
Menteri Kehakiman Filipina menyatakan bahwa pihaknya akan menindak tegas pelaku dan berkoordinasi dengan otoritas internasional untuk membasmi sindikat ini.
